Starbuck's has done an amazing marketing job -- but it's not marketing to us. It's been adept at making itself convenient and ubiquitous. Its stores that are more than kiosks offer comfortable seating, wifi access, snacks, and a music marketing program. Its drinks are predictably similar from store to store.

Perhaps one reason Starbucks frustrates people who frequent this site is its mediocre attention to fine, fresh coffee that's well prepared, and its success in spite of that. It's tried to head off that complaint with its premium Reserve brand and showplace store. People here aren't convinced, since that effort isn't widespread and such coffees and their preparation are inconsistent. Someone was going to come along and address the mass market window they've filled.

There are plenty of fine roasters and cafes for us, in part because Starbucks has left that segment largely unserved. And it doesn't have the agility of smaller operations to offer specialty coffees in their many varieties, with ongoing experimentation to roast and brew in a way that brings out these coffees' outstanding qualities. Many of us aren't consistently satisfied with the smaller roasters and cafes either and prefer to do the roasting and preparation ourselves.

Ok, color me cynical, but I still can't help but laugh at the OP's question. First post, crafted to surely provoke numerous responses, and then no follow up participation from the OP. Hmmm. It's like asking about Bose in an audiophile group, or Miller in a homebrew group, or ... :)

Basically, you can tell them, c'est comme le Macdo du café.

And I didn't think that Paris was a little city of only 300k residents :p

OH MY GOD that's weird. It's simple. I just need more explanation about the "Mcdo du café", because I prefer to have an answer if someone ask why.
And of course, Paris is not a little city of 300K, it's not about Paris. There are lot of city in France.
Then, thank you for your participation ! :)

I think this means "the MacDonald's of coffee." They're a big company known for their factory produced hamburgers and fries that taste the same in every store.

Haha, that can mean a lot of things to different people. After my wedding in Japan I was unfortunate enough to get to travel around with my family during the so called honeymoon (couldn't exactly bail on them all after they bought the tickets) my sister-in-law was dead set on macdonalds one night but we were headed do a burger/steak joint and planning to buy some Kobe beef (my dad had been wanting to and this was the night). She literally stayed outside, refusing to come inside, because she wanted macdonalds...

The moral of the story: don't assume that low quality to one means low quality to others ;)
Might just have people nodding and saying, "oh, thank you, I will give them a try next time then."
Yes, i you per this on an iPhone

Thanks for posting the video... I got a good laugh out of that.

It reminds me of a cartoon I saw back in the late 90's. An alien spaceship had landed on Earth, and two aliens were just walking through the hatch to descend a ladder. The spaceship has landed right next to a Starbucks.

Upon sighting the Starbucks, one alien stops in his tracks and says to the other, "oh man, those guys are EVERYWHERE!!"
