I found that the sugar process decafs have a lot more caffeine in them. I'm extremely caffeine sensitive and couldn't finish my first cup of sugar process. That might be an interesting alternative. The coffee was quite good, BTW. Klatch Decaf Columbia Las Serranias.

I don't recall the source, but I read that caffeine content is not effected by level of roast. Dark roasted cups tend to have more caffeine as a result of less weight per bean so more beans are used in a dark roasted cup (assumed measured dose by weight). Also, caffeine is a defense mechanism to bugs generated by the coffee plant, so coffees harvested at higher altitudes tend to have less caffeine. Maybe experiment with high grown single origins at your preferred roast level, measuring dose by scoop/volume vs weight until you find the right mix.

I came across an absolutely opposite point of view just the other day at https://www.fullcupflavor.com/pages/roasted-dark saying "Dark roast coffee works better for an evening cup ... as it contains the minimum amount of caffeine". However, that only refers to "When equal volumes are measured"
