I guess La Marzocco figures--and probably rightly so--that the people who overpay for their machines are likely to overpay for their coffee too.

Perhaps like an earlier poster in this thread, you're just making a joke. On the other hand, one could reasonably assume you are insinuating that anyone who buys from La Marzocco is a fool, which would go against the Guidelines for productive online discussion, specifically the admonishment Be respectful. Please take some time to review the Guidelines. Thanks.

PS: These types of exchanges remind me of one of my favorite Quotable Quotes:

Millions of people a day, inside thousands of cafes, will gladly drop +/-$4.00 on $.25 of milk and $.20 of coffee beans (not that those are the only expenses by far) for their 12oz latte.

But if we have the pleasure of brewing it at home and the milk cost $.25 and the coffee cost +/-$1.50 and you're out the door for $2.75, it's harder to appreciate.

It truly is interesting how consumer psychology works.

I am insinuating that La Marzocco knows it's customer demographic quite well, especially it's typical Linea Mini customer. It's this guy:

Guys,

$39 for two 250g bags of Tims coffee is very reasonable compared to others who offer it in the U.S.

His Kenya, Ethiopian and Colombian have all been better than anything I've gotten from my Superlatives subscription

Yes, there are more inexpensive local or national roasters, but if you like well developed light roasts, Tim is the guy to beat.

The more I think about this, the more I'm inclined to subscribe to it. I'm not in this to drink the cheapest coffee I can find. I'm in this to drink the best coffee I can find, while enjoying the science and craft of making it.

That's why I have the Linea Mini, the Kafatek Monolith, a SCACE-2 and a VST-Lab-III. I'm already spending something around this much on locally-roasted coffee beans anyway.

If I wanted cheap coffee, I can drink the free stuff at work. It's not bad and it is cheaper than anything else I can lay my hands on. I don't even have to make it. But what's the point in that?

It is just how I choose to live my life, by being demanding, expecting more and having high standards. Price paid is a distant second on my scale of what is important to me in terms of satisfaction. I live within my means and am fortunate to be able to do things like this. My philosophy on life is to build the means to live as I choose, not the other way around. If I want something, I work for it.

I think this is a wonderful subscription service. Yes, it's not bargin basement stuff but TW is expensive coffee and he sells his coffee 250 g bags. If MadCap is in the normal 12 oz bags they sell I don't see the fuss. The service is probably under priced then.

To get a service sending you coffee and notes from multiple roasters to try for espresso is a niche that was not being filled.

And it's completely reasonably priced, lots of places their subscriptions are twenty a bag.

If you want value there is Red Bird or Paradise roasters, but they are completely different compared to TW and MadCap.

So LM posted their next 12 roasters they're hosting at they're Seattle cafe after Tim Wendelboe (aka the first 13 roasters of the subscription since Wendelboe is the first). You can see them here: http://www.lamarzoccousa.com/blog/la-ma ... residence/

Lots of great looks roasters, but one name on the list that really concerns me....Dutch Bros. Coffee - not coming for 11 months, but they have no business being on this list. For those who don't know they operate a chain of 280 drive through coffee shops that I would place about equal with Starbucks personally. Totally capable of producing a good coffee flavored milkshake, but not at all a provider of specialty coffee.

Here's the thing, every one I've been to has had a big Linea on the counter. So now I'm thinking they gave them the slot because they're a good customer of LM, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Without an explanation I will most definitely be cancelling the subscription for that month. It's confusing though, it's not like they can trick people into thinking this is good coffee, if they send their normal beans there is sure to be some backlash - so maybe they're planning on launching a new specialty line akin to Starbucks Reserve. They currently have 1 S.O. on their website, a Kenyan for $16/lb. - it doesn't inspire a ton of confidence.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, just thought I would share.

I have to agree, looking forward, there are some less remarkable roasters on their list, and that is my hesitation in joining. Some of them seem to be pretty pedestrian in my opinion.

I have no doubt they are all good La Marzocco customers. I think that's the whole point of the LM cafe, to show off LM equipment as used by LM's cafe customers.

I"m pretty happy for the line up. My tastes have changed through trying a variety, beans and roasts I didn't know existed. Every roaster has their place, some might gotten me into specialty coffee, that I wouldn't drink now. So I would chalk something you might not be interested in, to that, experience. I did read in the T's & C's, you can paused the subscription if you want. So if you find something on the list, you might not care for, you can pass on that roaster, and maybe order your normal beans, or your new favorite that you got in the LM Subscription.

That is what I am most excited about, trying something new, or that I haven't had in awhile and being able to chat about it, to friend or on this forum.

I never ordered anything from Tim, so I'm excited about that.
