I stand corrected. Value is of course up to the individual, but that's far outside my price comfort zone.TomC wrote:It'll be up to the buyer to determine the value. But I was wrong in my guesstimate as well. I assumed 12 oz bags. But they're not. They're 250g, barely over half a pound. So, in actuality, it's even more than $26/lb, it's $35/lb.

As a lover of (properly roasted) lighter coffees, you've just sold me on trying this one.SonVolt wrote:Can't I replicate Tim's coffee at home by leaving some green beans out on the counter and turning the HVAC up to 70F for 6 minutes?
For anyone wondering, there is an option for 1 month only, if you just want to try Tim Wendelboe's coffee.
Ends up about $10 cheaper than getting two bags from Tim's site after shipping to the US, and I'd imagine getting it fresher than their base Norway Post option. And about half the price if you wanted priority shipping to the US. Definitely still a pricey coffee, but I don't mind that for a rare occasion.

Depends on the supplier. U.S. roasters will be 12 oz bags but European 250g. What struck me is that the coffee might be 2 weeks old by the time you get it depending on where the roaster is located. They don't specify how it is shipped; UPS? USPS PM?TomC wrote:It'll be up to the buyer to determine the value. But I was wrong in my guesstimate as well. I assumed 12 oz bags. But they're not. How did you score that one? Their lowest price bags are 13-14 with a sub plus 3 shipping.SonVolt wrote:That's $20 per 12oz bag sent ONCE per month. To put that into perspective, I get a 12oz bag from Counter Culture for $13 shipped EVERY WEEK, 2 days post-roast.

In looking at the list of upcoming roasters - the LM subscription price is not out of line. Don't know most of these roasters, but doesn't look like LM is doing a crazy mark up.

I've subscribed - and cancelled my Superlatives subscription. Superlatives is fun, but even more expensive (per lb) with most other subscribers making manual brews (waste half the tiny bag dialing in). I'm an espresso guy, and this is an espresso subscription. $39 isn't cheap, but not outrageous - would be more than fair if they were 1lb bags - they're doing a lot of work behind the scenes to make this happen. Left to my own devices I would keep buying the same coffees from a couple local roasters. They're good, but it gets boring.
The first three months seem pretty great. We'll go from there.

Likewise, I'm excited to try some coffee roasters that I don't know much about. And having a curated selection helps to narrow that down to what looks to be a pretty good set. The first 3 roaster's they have profiled have peaked my interest.
