Jason I agree the Oro caffe Premium has to be the best Italian coffee I tasted on these shores.
I'm a local roast guy but find the Oro caffe Premium closest to the nouveau Arabica beans roasted here.

so after a couple of week with the Oro caffe, I can really say I like it. its more sophisticated then most other italian blend Ive tested. Not as chocolatey or caramel tasting as the Kimbo though but equally great.

NOTE: I cannot stress enough how important it is to try to dose the italian blends at about 14g in and 18g out. italian blends somehow do not like to be dosed at 17-18g even if kept at ristretto range. The Segafredo was almost undrinkable at 18g but quite creamy and tasty at 14g : night and day difference imo.

Very interesting on the dosing tip. I might buy another bag of Kimbo Superior to try. I'm happy to see my tastes validated by your list. Kimbo Superior is their best blend. Extra Cream is a disgusting mess IMHO. The Extra Cream's popularity is very confusing to me.

The Kimbo Napoletano is basically charred beans tossed in oil and tastes like a puddle of cigarette ashes and burning car tires.

Where can I buy Oro Caffe beans? Do I have to order from them directly? Or, are they carried by any GTA stores?

I'll check the Lady York grocery store tomorrow. They carry a lot of imported Italian whole bean coffee.

49th paralel Old School... WOW, very good

after 3 week with the oro, I need to try again the kimbo as I think I prefer the kimbo superior. will buy after this bag of oro the kimbo superior to be sure.

Oro Caffe also offers a DOI CHAANG whole bean here you might want to give a go and compare.

Ahhhhh! I think my head might explode! After preaching and using only fresh coffee for the last 5~ years after discovering HB and CG I read this thread and the 26 page thread titled 2 month old Kimbo, arg!

I guess I have a lot more coffee I need to try than I thought. Bodka is next though, the coffee AND customer service from them is top notch and I have been craving it. Then I might have to try this Kimbo Superior...

I picked up a bag of Kimbo Superior last September, and thought it was ok. I had a hard time getting consistent results from it, in a 15g VST basket (which many consider to be the least forgiving basket ever - ha). For me, it seemed like it was always a balancing act between sort of brandy-ish flavors, and tobacco flavors.

Anyway, fast forward to yesterday, and I pulled a jar out of the freezer. Used the Monolith this time, which I hadn't used with this coffee before. Wow - what a difference! Poured 4 shots so far, and flavors seem quite balanced; still a tobacco twinge, but it's just peeking out from the background, and not slapping me in the face. Similar with the brandy-esque flavors - detectable in the background, but not unpleasant. I'm quite liking this coffee now - it's a nice change. I'm using 197F, 15g in, 30g out, in about 28s.
