Intelligentsia El Diablo Dark Roast... Ugh. - Page 2

Postby JmanEspresso on Mon Aug 31, 2009 12:18 am

Thought I might FINALLY update my thoughts on the El Diablo.

I had it the entire time I was on Vacation, along with three home roasts. A lightish roasted Sumatra, which needs to be roasted darker, Ethiopian Idido Misty Vallye(awesome, btw) and my personal Brazil blend.(Cerrado,Ipanema,Fortaleza).

The El Diablo, while good, wasnt some I would buy again. But, it was a good blend, and definitely not a dark roast, as suggested. Id say its about the same roast degree as most chocolate bomb espresso blends... Klatch House Espresso, Counter Culture La Forza, Etc Etc. Its a blend of Kenyan and Rwandan, and the fruit is lost. Its a blend which has a lot of clove and cinnamon flavor, with some dark chocolate on the bag end, with a little spice sprinkled on top. Something I liked in my espresso, not something I want in my brewed coffee. If you're the type of person who likes a darker coffee in the morning, but not your typical french roast blend, this is the blend for you. I personally like bright, fruity, floral coffees for my brewing purposes, which is why I didnt like this blend too much. But, to be 100% clear, it was a well balanced blend, just not Im looking for.

And, it should be mentioned, that when I emailed Intelligentsia, they got back to me right away, and gave me a free pound of coffee. They offered to send me a bag of the SO I ordered, but I asked them to give me a bag of BC instead. So, when I ordered upon returning from Vaca, they tacked an extra bag of BC classic on the order. I dont mind much if a mistake is made.. Its how its handled that decides it for me. Well done intelly, thank you very much.
