Intelligentsia Brazil Agua Petra

Postby JonR10 on Fri Jan 22, 2010 1:11 pm

Most of you probably don't know (or care) that I was one of the HB Holiday winners....
I won a prize from Intelligentsia Coffee: a pound of coffee per week for four weeks!

Well, the first one came in yesterday. It is the Brazil Agua Petra.

I could smell the coffee when I removed the package from the mailbox, I didn't even need to look at the label to know it came from Intelli. The packaging is way cool too; a red foil-lined valve bag.

Upon grinding, the aroma is fabulously rich but at the same time smooth and mild. I decided to try it both a drip brew in the Technivorm and also as a SO espresso.

Verdict? This is a great coffee no matter how you brew it :D . The espresso was smooth and creamy and pretty much a milk chocolate bomb, but it has enough acidity to keep the cup interesting. The drip brew was also smooth and silky, and I got toasted nuts under the milk chocolate tone. Fabulous!

So, I'm excited :-)
This one is a real winner with both me and my wife (she loves drip coffee best)
We are both looking forward to trying whatever comes next!!

Many thanks again to Intelligentsia for being a HB giveaway sponsor, and a special thanks to matt Riddle who has been taking care of me and getting the mini-subscription going 8)

Ha! I was just looking at the description of this online and thought it sounded good and so Googling for folks who had prepared it as espresso.

What prep are you using (dosage/temp/time/extraction volume)?

The bag is long gone but here are the approximate values:

19-20g / 201-202 F / 25-29 sec / 1.75-2 fl. oz

Thanks! Did you try anything far off from this, or settle there quickly when it made a good shot?

Just finished 2 lbs of this stuff. It wasn't the most complex coffee, but smooth and delicious, the description was right on and my wife absolutely loved it, highly recommended.
