The stock double basket for Silvia doesn't easily allow for bigger doses. You can upgrade to the Synesso double basket to increase dosage. It's a cheap and effective way to upgrade your machine without having to replace the whole thing.

I too have found it to be very bland and boring. I assure you that it's not your technique or equipment. I've had various incarnations of the blend through the past few years and have been unimpressed. If you want really good espresso consistently go with Klatch or Counter Culture - I have yet to be disappointed by any of their offerings. Metropolis Coffee's Redline and Spice Island are good bets as well as their La Cordillera, if you prefer a darker roast.
