Simply put- yes. Pre-ground coffee will always be lacking. You need to buy freshly roasted (14 days old or less) coffee and grind it immediately before you brew if you want an excellent shot of espresso.

My knowledge of Malaysian roasters is woefully inadequate. Hopefully, someone will chime in with some suggestions of places for you to try.

What machine are you using, by the way?

the machine is locally assembled its called Morgan, a very simple & basic machine with 15bar pump driven.
its also true that there isn't any major good roasters here. i'm also not an espresso purist as i prefer milky based coffee.
i got my grounded from brands like Vittoria& Cafe Aurora recently when i was in Melbourne and planning to get Lavazza here.
of course i can by freshly grinded beans from Starbucks,Gloria jean and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

@ DM3,
welcome to forum and, maybe try to avoid your next disappointment by not buying "Starbucks,Gloria jean and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf fresh old grinds"?!

How about getting some fresh boncafe beans from Thailand?

Just heard good things from them....

I agree with all said. If you get fresh coffee and grind it yourself you will be in good shape. Post a pic of your machine. I would like to see it!

Hi Outrigger,

yea was told not to get from Starbucks too, but Boncafe?
are they good? cuz i have tried them for my plunger, but they were roasted from Singapore somehow the were established earlier and probably branched out to Thai. http://www.boncafe.com/coffee.html

Hi Sweaner,

here is my very humble machine, definitely cant even be compared to those machines out there.
