Inspired by a thread on another forum I frequent (non-coffee related) I'd like to start a thread where everybody can shortly describe their wake-up shot of the day. After all, for most of us this is where our day really starts.

My morning shot was a bit fast (donut extraction by the looks of the largish pin hole in the puck), but surprisingly the taste was very good. Nice caramel and dark chocolate, without the bitterness I expected from looking at the extraction. The beans are starting to show their age (bag opened 12 days ago), but nothing a slight tightening of the grind cannot fix.

All in all a good start of the day!

My mother made it on the Peppina. Of course it tasted great.

This mornings coffee:
yesterdays roast, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, perhaps roasted a TEENY bit dark, only slightly shiny surface. Pulled as a down dose restretto, nice thick body for how little coffee was in the basket, cocoay with barely a hint of overroasted bitter notes. I have high hopes for tomorrows DAY 2 morning coffee of this batch.

Yesterday I sent my Portafilter to get chopped by Lino, so today's morning coffee is Chemex! Caffe Fresco's Ethiopia (espresso) coffee is tasting quite good. I think my chemex might be broken though... there's no crema!

Type while drinking first cup of the morning Panama Esmeralda Gesha No.5 '08 Americano. Love the stuff. FWIW greens kept vac' sealed and frozen in 4# bags for half capacity roast batch, only 16# left oh no! Roasted in Nor'West Coffee's USRC 3k, that would be me of course.

I'm playing with Sweet Marias Liquid Amber Espresso blend this week. I had two absolutely delicious shots before work that were mostly caramel with an nice smoky flavor with background fruit hints. The blend has monsooned coffees so I've been pulling my shots with 16-16.5 gm at higher temps then normal (~203).

For work I made a press pot of Guatemala Huehuetenago (FC roast) which is a favorite with milk chocolate and biscuit. Its a rich balanced cup to my tastes.

7oz latte from home-roasted SM's Monkey Blend (7 days post-roast). Still new to the roasting world - if anyone has any sure-fire roasting profiles for monkey blend (using a gene cafe) i'd love to hear them.

Shot was pulled on this recently installed beast:

Local Roaster's ( Legacy Chocolates) Yergh full city+, 6 days since and pulled on a Cremina. One down the hatch and another as Latte while I sit here. Very berry and butterscotch, no hint of chocolates. Nice finish as butterscotch.
Hope all you had shots as good!
Cheers

heheheh sometimes you just have to take one for the team.

Ran out of coffee, so far too fresh beans (straight out of roaster). Ended up in a cappa, but I dare not post a pic of my latte art effort as Jacobs would put me to shame! Its just jumped to 100% humidity here, that or the uber fresh beans, made the Mini E shoot static grounds all over the kitchen!

Getting close to the end of the blend of Yemen Mokha Sharasi and Sumatra Lake Toba that I roasted last week. It's still very nice, even if all I have to extract with right now is my Gaggia Synchrony.

I've been pulling Blue Blend by Batdorf and Bronson. It's easy to pull pretty consistent shots with flavors of a little spice (nutmeg??), and a little fruit (cherry?). This morning's shot was no exception. First it was a latte (flavors got lost in it, actually), then a nice double espresso.

Blue Blend isn't easy to find. I order it through a Batdorf Stand here in Atlanta (Star Provisions), but I have not seen it on their website.

I am still a noob, but frothed my best milk this morning and had two cappucinos and a straight shot. Coffee was from a local roaster, 7 days post roasting. Not bad but I expect I can get much much better!

Excellent.

Two syrypy crema-laden doubles of MVP blend, home-roasted. - now day 11 post roast. 17.5g in Synesso double basket @201F, 1.25 oz ristretti.

They would have been godshots if the temp had been 0.5F cooler.

A fitting finish to this batch, and time to roast more.

Arggh, didn't anyone else pull a crappy shot and have to drink it anyway? The kids needed to be fed, I stayed up too late doing taxes and slept in, my teenage daughter overslept, my wife was saying "you don't have time for that!", I tried to get the grind right for a new batch of PT's Bella Espresso, so I guessed on the grind, thwacked away, tamped hard, flushed and pulled a triple naked with spritzes showing on half of the puck. Still better than Starbucks. Oh well, tomorrow is Saturday, I should have a bit more time...must practice grace under pressure. Perhaps I am learning what it would take to become a cafe barista...

Been trying some Blue Bottle Faezenda Jacaranda that I ended up getting when they didn't have either the Misty Valley, Chapada Diamantia or Roman. All of which probably would have been better. It's good and a long time since I've had Blue Bottle at home. Surprised by how coarse I'm having to grind this stuff. The shots have been decent. Today I got a bit more brightness out of it, but it seems like the last few mornings have resulted in a mad rush out of the house as well so it's been a day by day progression making dialing in pretty much impossible.
