How old is too old?

Postby Kat on Sun Sep 21, 2008 12:55 pm

How long should we be able to use coffee after it's roasted? I'm thinking of ordering a 5 lb bag of Black Cat, but it will probably take us 4-5 weeks to use it. Would coffee this old still produce great tasting espresso?

Thanks in advance~

It will be fine if you break it up and store it in the freezer. Ken's article Coffee: To Freeze or Not to Freeze? covers the topic nicely.

Yes, freezing has helped quite a bit.

I use the Reynolds Handi-vac to vacuum pack enough for about 3 days in the 1 quart bags. Works great, though I really don't know if they really need the vacuum packing.

Man does not live by coffee alone...we need beer too.
