Good micro roasters in (or near) Austria

Postby da gino on Tue Aug 17, 2010 7:09 am

I'm living in Vienna for a while and have some competent espresso bars in walking distance (think Segrafredo and superautomatics), but nothing with truly great espresso so I'm in withdrawal - to be fair the walking distance espresso bars are far better than the ones near my home in the US. Are there any great roasters in Vienna or within short shipping distance that I should order beans from?

I'll be using a Timolino (ie clever-like) dripper and hopefully a hand grinder if I can find one while I am here, but won't have espresso equipment, but I assume any great roaster will have something for brewed coffee as well as for espresso and that will do fine.

thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I don't know how fast it will go, but Knopes is really good and pretty close.
They're in Belgium, and it takes about 2 days from roasting to arriving in Holland.

+1 for walter! u cant do anything wrong with him!

else i suggest caffee compagnie. they have some blends and a lot of single origins that are roasted on demand. the blends can be found at all "mühlenbrot" bakeries....if u want some single origins or if u want it really fresh u have to order per email and then u can pick it up at a mühlenbrot bakery! usually they are quite dark roasted, but i like this :-)

Thanks for the advice so far! I ordered from Walter and can't wait. I look forward to trying the other recommendations soon, too. Any further suggestions would also be welcome.

Next time I accidentally produce some charcoal, I'll send it over for free to you... ;)

Walter, thanks for the coffee! Your Sumatra is excellent. My true passion is espresso and I wish I had my espresso gear here, so I could try some of your espresso as I imagine I'd love it, but I got your coffee on Monday and having such nice stuff to drink has made me miss my espresso a little less and enjoy brewed more than I have in a long time.
