El Salvador La Illusion COE No.1

I'm now 1/3 through my 250g bag split into three sealed containers on initial opening.

Every time I open this out comes this great mellow smell. Probably the best smell I've got from a coffee bean.

In the cup I got fruit salad sweets (for those who don't know this is a very sweet fruits chewy sweet) all on the front end. A lovely acidity to match. Not over powering but completely in balance with the whole cup. And this is what it does best, balance in the cup. Then this develops into a winey complex rich taste. Then it's the sweet sweet aftertaste that just carries on and on and on.

The taste is sweet and has all those mentioned in the cupping notes. The acidity - even in a ristretto at the bottom of the shot glass doesn't get concentrated to affect the taste. The taste is not as vivid as some but sits well in the morning cappuccino. Making this as espresso is where this shines as the coffee taste is clean, open and you don't have to dig into the taste to find the components. It's smooth, very smooth - not chocolate mocca graininess but just silky smooth.

Recently I had the chance to spend time drinking a bottle of Cheval Blanc 2003 (yes that's young) compared to the normal St.Emillion/Pomerol. What took me back is the same thing I noticed here - the clean nature and clarity of the presentation of the flavours whilst being velvety, silky smooth.

Is it worth the cost? Although sold as a premium, I think it's more £12-13 ($18-19) is realistic.
