Darker Roasts

Postby innermusic on Sun May 29, 2011 10:21 am

Seems like most if not all of the blends recommended here are medium full city type roasts. Are there any recommended darker Vienna types that folks are enjoying?

Mexican Chiapas, Nicaragua, Guat Antiguas, Kenyas, Northern Colombias, and Sumatras are the usual suspects for darker roasts.

Thanks. However, I was actually looking for recommendations for blends.

A few years back I tried Paradise Roasters Espresso Havana and enjoyed it. Darkest Roast Coffee online? offers a few other suggestions.

Curious, why are you interested in "dark roasted" blends only?

Not just dark roasted blends. But I do like some dark roasts in addition to the medium roasts. The darker roasts are less acidic, less fruity, can be softer, less tangy. Right now I seem to be enjoying the medium roasts, but I would like to sample some of the darker roasted blends as well. Just for a change.

Hello,

I'm not an expert, don't know who delivers to Canada or the roast levels (just darker than what I'm used to) and it's been a while since I've tried some of these, but I've enjoyed :

PT's Gizmo (no longer listed as an espresso there, in with blends)
Novo's Del Fuego
Ecco's Organic / Dark Roast

Also liked Stumptown's house blend as espresso (forget the name) I think that was on the dark side...)

I never got anywhere with Gimme's Leftist, but other's here have, and I plan to try again.

Good luck!
