Good to know. Sounds like another great addition to the Toronto scene.Spitz.me wrote: BTW, Bud's Coffee Bar (@budscoffeebar) located in the Beaches neighborhood is bringing in Gimme Coffee's Leftist blend and whatever else my heart desires, according to the owner, Ken. He's a very nice guy and just wants to deliver good coffee to people. So, he's making sure his retail selection is great. I'm very happy he's brought Gimme Coffee to Toronto and if you're into beautiful comfort blends, go grab a bag or two of the Leftist. Oh and when I went last weekend he was pulling Sam James' Cut blend and it was very delicious. He knows what he's doing.
BTW - he doesn't have a phone number and he told me his hours are weekdays 7am-7pm.
I'm going to have to try Social's Sidama ARDI. I keep reading people raving about it.dtyson wrote:
Right now I've got my first 4 bags of Social open and on the go. A bit darker roast typically vs the P+S, which makes my wife happy, but I'm not getting the depth and finish of the P+S, even with a lighter roasted SO (Sidama ARDI), which I miss.

I'm not Canadian but when I was in the Yukon this summer I found a wonderful coffee place in Carcross called Caribu Crossing Coffee. They were pulling delicious shots on a La Marzocco using beans from Bean North Coffee Roastings in Whitehorse. When I got back to the states I ordered some. Unfortunately because of the customs delay it took like 10 days to arrive so its not a realistic option for me on a regular basis. Still, even 10 days off roast these beans were great. There are two espresso roasts. One is a bit darker than the other but neither are oily or"roasty."

I figured....couldn't remember if there was a cutoff, and I may have well been after it. Will be interesting to see when it shows up and what the roast date is.Bob_McBob wrote:They roast and ship on Monday and Thursday, and their order cut-off is the midnight the morning of the roast date. That's 7 pm on Sunday in Ontario, and they're pretty strict about it.

Have any of you Canadians checked out www.trailsendcoffee.com? They are 2 brothers with one in the states and one in Canada with roasters at both locations I guess.

My own concoctions, been home roasting for got to be at least ten years now. In the past I shopped locally as I am lucky to have some quite decent local roasters here. Been quite a while since I've compared, hmm when was retail coffee last 20$/kg?
Locally most of the smaller places tend to have very traditional northern italy "face smack" espresso profiles.
I know there's a bunch of other home roaster fruitcakes like me around.

Great read, I'll order from Social and P&S soon.
I went back to Detour recently, quite interesting to see their improvement over the last few years
There is St Henry café in Montreal, I go directly to their main location the day after they roast and the experience is always good(the coffee as well).
When I feel like having international coffee, i go to Caffè in Gamba. They have a good selection(Intelligentsia, Zoka, Novo and Vergnano+ many other in rotation) but roasting date are always in the 6-10 days... Still less of a PITA than having to deal with UPS.

Has anyone tried Trebilcock Roasters outside of Toronto? They seem passionate about what they do. Just don't know what their coffee is like.

We are pretty lucky in the Montreal region with exceptionnal 3rd gen coffee, Myriad, Caffe in Gamba wich have alot of canadian and american roaster available off the shelves, enough selection to choose one with reasonnable roast date. and do not forget cafe Saint-Henri that you have to try who roast on location and do mail order.

Recently moved to Calgary so I'll focus on the western roasters I've tried.
Just got some from Red Engine Coffee Roasters - very good. http://www.redenginecoffee.com
Have also had subscriptions from Phil & Sebastien, Transcend, Frattelo - all good.
