Caffe Fresco Flossie's Blend

Postby cafeIKE on Sat Nov 14, 2009 7:00 pm

One of my favorite coffees is the house blend at Discovery Coffee in my hometown. Erin, the roaster, is a true artisan, continually revising the blend to accommodate the beans. The roast is not always the same, but it's always great. Sadly, Canada Post charges more than the coffee to ship to LA, CA.

Caffe Fresco's Tony Sciandra is another true artisan pulling the maximum pleasure from the beans.

Flossie's Blend is as close to perfection for sheer enjoyment as damn-it-all is to swearing.

The taste : Citrus, kirsch, dark chocolate with a hint of almond / marzipan
The shot : ~10g ~198°F ~8.5bar ~25ml ~25s

Bravissimo

i like flossie's as well, and will have to try it at your dose levels.
I've been enjoying it at 16g, 202, 45ml, 30 seconds.

I've Just tried my first bag of Flossies, and I've been impressed. What I like the most about it, is that I can try at different doses and grinds, and get different shots out of it, that are all good. It seems to be a very forgiving blend that has some interesting characteristics too it, and even now that it's getting out of it's prime freshness since roast, I'm still getting pretty good shots.

I've been pulling Flossies for the past couple of weeks. It's a great blend, and at the moment, I am enjoying more than Ambrosia. The flavor of Flossies seems more complex. I'm not good at naming flavors, but to me it has a sweet-nutty taste and also an earthy/spicy taste (maybe from the Papua New Guinea).

I received the shipment at three days post roast, and at that time it had a really sharp taste. About three more days of rest and it was wonderful. To me, it peaked at 7-9 days post roast. It has been interesting to try it each day and taste the subtle differences.

I have enjoyed Flossies, and as other members have noted, Tony at Caffe Fresco is great to work with.

James,

Thanks for the post. Your observation of the roast maturation is spot-on, and you can read more ABOUT Roast Maturation here;
