Caffe Fresco Daterra Reserve

Postby aindfan on Mon Feb 16, 2009 2:18 pm

With the 11oz bag of Ambrosia completely gone, I've moved onto my thawed bag of Daterra. It tasted nice as a Chemex brew and I'm dialing in the Ponte Vecchio/Super Jolly right now. My first shot, with the same grind as for Ambrosia and a 13g dose (.5g less than Ambrosia) came out nice and creamy with a bit of blondness in the crema. The taste progressed from bland (milk?) chocolate to a nice sweet creamy last sip, so naturally, I'll be trying to extend that last sip to the rest of the shot. I think my starting point will be to increase the dose to 13.5g or 14g and go from there. The grind might get a bit coarser once I've tried the higher dose.

Anyone else tried this coffee and have any thoughts?

Hi, if you are going blond early bump up your dose to 15 or 16 grams -- I am assuming you are pulling at least a 60ml. double.

Some customers are missing the second page of Extraction Tips.

Just a quick note too -- Daterra Estates Espresso Reserve is a Brazil and can be found on the web site via these two links;

Tony, thanks for the reply. I tried 14g this morning and got an even better shot. I'm not sure I will be able to cram 15g into the basket, but I'll definitely try.

Thanks again!

On my Ponte Vecchio Lusso I'm pulling a 30mL double (I believe it's 2 15mL pulls of the lever or so - can any other PV users correct me?)

Another update: I just tried 14.5g. It was really thick and caramel syrupy, but it's leaving more of a bitter aftertaste than the 14g shot. I think I'll stick with that for now (and maybe go for 14.5 if I'm feeling really adventurous one morning and want a very full bodied shot).

Thanks again for the tip!

I like Tony's Daterra Reserve even more than the Ambrosia... which I enjoy a lot. :wink:
