Aroma Selector for cupping

Postby Arpi on Sat Jul 16, 2011 10:01 am

Hi all.

I made a quick aroma selector tool to help find aromas during cupping. The information was obtained from here:

Nice! What about sharing the source of this and other wheel graphs in Artisan format via the wiki on the Artisan home page?

Cheers,

It's a very complete wheel that will help people hunting to name what they are smelling. But it is not in an order useful for roasters.

The SCAA wheel arranges taste roughly in the order they arise during the roast, so as the roast gets darker, the flavors move clockwise. Also, since faster roasts have a wider spread of roast depth from bean interior to exterior, the range of tastes gets more focused as roasts get longer. Finally, flavors that show the coffee is tainted, like the hidey and rioey, are moved to a taint wheel.

Hi.

Artisan will have some graphs built in. Now we can use the mouse to select individual elements of the graph. For example, we could use these graphs to select labels with the left click of the mouse (like from menu but in a graph), and load the selected labels to the cupping notes (maybe with a numeric value attached). The graphs are user editable but default graphs will be available. There are lots of possibilities as to what to present and/or what to do since the graphs can be dynamic and editable. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will jump in and improve the default graphs (after next version) or give better ideas and direction on how to use them (like maybe Jim :) ). We could add any default graphs as long as they are not copyright protected or we have permission. Little by little they could improve through feedback.

Some graphs could be divided in:

aroma
flavor
defect
some roast metric
interactive with the profile being recorded
etc

The graphs do have a text size property that may not be equal for all screens. For example if the application is maximized, then the text size will be relative smaller. That can be fixed though.

We could also include a separate folder with graphs that people send-donate (the text files are very small in size).

Cheers

PS: the above file can be found here:

right click aroma.wg and then chose: Save Link As
