Counter Culture Apollo 5.0

Postby jasonmolinari on Sun Jul 24, 2011 10:43 pm

The Apollo 5.0 is delicious. It's so much more balanced than i would expect from a single origin espresso. Very sweet and strong nuts.
I've been pulling it as they suggest. 18g, 200 deg, ~1.5 oz. Really delicious.

Haven't tried it in milk yet.

Had a cappuccino this morning. Good, but i prefer the straight shot. Capp had lots of chocolate, but was otherwise unremarkable.

Thanks Jason,

How much rest time did you give it beforehand?

Just tried Apollo 5.0, three days post-roast, and like it a lot. I'm normally not a big fan of coffees that require updosing (I like light-roasted SOs), but this one works for me. Part of that is being a big fan of Ethiopian coffees.

I started off with CC's brewing parameters, then lowered the temp to 199.5F to bring out more fruit and lowered the dose to 18.5g to speed the flow a little. Went for about 25g in the cup, for a 74% ratio in about 27 sec.

Lots of fruit, with some chocolate on the finish (sorry, I can't give a more complex description than that. :D )

Definitely recommended.
