Anyone here drink Peet's Espresso Forte?

Postby JimWright on Sat Nov 07, 2009 11:26 am

Man, this brings back memories. My uncle, RIP, used to take me to that original Peet's at Walnut & Vine in college in the 80s, we would go to the Black Oak bookstore and then go get coffee, read and talk, and I would buy cards from the little shop upstairs and sometimes bring beans from the store back to Santa Cruz. My mom and her sister still mail order all their coffee from Peet's to this day. If I could turn back the clock... {Sigh}

Anyone here drink Peet's Espresso Forte? Never tried it and curious now that I think about it.

Jim, it's still Peet's -- meaning that it's a bit over-roasted for my tastes, while not nearly as charred as *$. I've purchased it occasionally if I've mistimed an office delivery and have to run out and buy something right now, and of course I've had it in various Peet's cafés/stores (it's part of their regular rotation through the espresso bar). They claim it's the first blend ever created by Peet's specifically for espresso; it's on the full-bodied side, smooth and round without being low in acidity. That said, as will all of Peet's coffees prepared as espresso, I prefer it in a milk-drink -- at least when it's at Peet's!

Cheers,
Jason

I grew up in Berkeley and lived with both Alfred Peet and the orginal store as well as Black Oak...

espresso Forte is my go to every day coffee and as you might expect I like it. It is quite nice in milk drinks as noted above. I like dark roasts and the espresso forte is dark without having the pronounced burn of either Peet's French Roast or other major coffee roasters espresso/Italian roasts.

Hmmmm. Having first become a coffee lover in Santa Cruz, where they like those dark roasts, this sounds like something I'll have to try. I've never found them to work acceptably as espresso, but curious to know whether I can use this in a pinch! (Ritual is only 20 miles away, but on a busy morning if I'm completely out, the 2 miles to Peet's is certainly a lot more workable than that...)

I like the Garuda blend for espresso. To me it has more complexity than the Espresso Forte, but is still of course in the Peet's dark roast style.
