About Indaba, not sure these guys still offer free shipping. I tried to purchase two 8oz bags earlier, but in my shopping cart there's a $5.25 shipping charge next to each bag - not just for the whole order. It worked out to $33 for two 8oz bags! (I didn't make the purchase )

Maybe I missed something in the checkout process, but Indaba seems to charge for shipping.

^^^ Odd, since shipping is still listed as "free" within each coffee listing. I sent them a tweet asking for clarification. Maybe it's a glitch. If not, I'll remove them from the thread.

Update: removed Indaba. I heard back from them, and shipping is no longer free.

As for slow shipping, I don't know any that take over three days based on experience.
I've bought from a number of good to very good roasters located all over the U.S. that charge for shipping & they aren't "pushing over $20 for 12 oz". There is no free lunch. If a roaster isn't charging extra for shipping on small orders then it's built into the coffee price.

You talk to me like I don't understand how to order coffee. I very well understand its built into the coffee price (with free shipping) and I don't think it's relevant to what I said.

Generally speaking, roasters with the flat rate shipping of 5$ or so dollars, typically cost more than those with free shipping (which is primarily Verve and MTN Air). If anything, this has led me to buy coffee locally at the shops, so no harm.

I'm glad that you have bought from a number of good to very good roasters and are getting away under 20$. Now If I froze larger orders, this wouldn't be an issue.

Thankfully, more roasters are starting to do subscription type things (every other week) that help with the smaller orders. I'll happily commit to buying so many coffees over a certain time period instead of being sporadic to be lighter on the wallet.

I understand this may sound insensitive to the smaller roasters and I apologize but that is what this topic is all about (the costs of shipping, hidden or not).

Looks like Blue Bottle has begun including shipping in their prices, too. Seems to be true for everything, including merchandise.
