Velvet Foam - gadget or gourmet?

Postby andrewpetre on Sat Oct 17, 2009 2:19 pm

Researching something else, I came across this today, and I am forced to ask:

Is this mysterious Velvet Foam finesse or farce?

Wow... that's a trip! Are they using half and half milk?
To all those don't have a silver spoon in their mouth, it's okay. Rusty forks get the job done too.

John is right. Both the "crema" and the "foam" have been piped in. A pair of soft ice creams or maybe equally soft whipped toppings.

Looks very shiny, flawless and industrial -- a latte for robots perhaps.

John was kidding.
While all appearances seem to point to what you say as being true, I was going to hold off until I had more than my suppositions to support that position before I said anything. Are you saying that it's impossible for cream and microfoam to look that good?
Is there anything other than that assertion backing that statement up? Ya can't just go destroying my fantasies without and dang evidence, Jim! ; >
Yeah, it looks to good to be true...

If you ever pull a shot that has the same "crema" you see at the base of that drink, let me know -- after you've had your eyes examined.

As for the white part, anyone who can pour micro foam in a spiral?

Jokes aside, it really does look a lot like a coffee shop serving their chocolate and vanilla frozen yogurt or smoothies in a to-go cup.

John was half kidding as its obviously either ice cream/frozen yogurt or whipped cream as it sure in hell isn't espresso crema & microfoam!

Yeah, been there, done that, same shirt.

I hear a lot of implied 'can't' and 'impossible', but i do have to say, if I was standing at a counter, and someone poured that out of a steam pitcher, I'd have to drink it. I dunno what it is, but I'm going to believe in the possibility until someone can authoritatively debunk this mystery.
It can't be that pretty because I can't make one that pretty' isn't really an authoritative dubunking, and I prefer to live in a world of possibilities even if I'm pretty darned sure that I'll have my hopes and dreams crushed.
It's worked for me so far... ; >

Hmmm. At first I brashly wrote totally doable, but I'll say perhaps doable using 1/2 & 1/2 - haven't tried to stack it high like that before but I'll attempt it tomorrow.

That said, the thickness on the sides is what gives me pause... thick foam that will sit in a mound on top is one thing, but not sure how they produced what looks like brown foam to my eye.
