Been there, got over sticker shock in 1990. The USD$ is 1/3 stronger against the krone now compared to our last visit.

Current gas price is $6.19/US gallon. I will post back the price of a cortado/US lb of coffee once I arrive.

I can attest that Mean Bean serves great coffee in Kristiansand.
If you are into roasters, Mean Bean had a 2kg Coffee-Tech Torrefattore in the shop last time I visited them - and by all means visit Wendelboes shop, and check his vintage probat while drinking the light roasted coffee :)

Wendelboe's cafe is well worth a visit. Coffee and service is top notch.
If you are in the downtown areas looking for a good brew or espresso, Stockfleths is recommended.
They have several small cafes there (4 or 5): http://www.stockfleths.as/

Btw. there is also a food hall up next to Grünerløkka - area and very close to wendelboe's cafe,
just a 2 min walk across the river: http://mathallenoslo.no
Solberg & Hansen has a store there.

Headed out this evening. Will hit Wendelboe's in Oslo.

If anyone has other recommendations:

1) Oslo
2) Kristiansand
3) Stavanger

4) and Barcelona, Spain

please post them. Dave

I'll probably be there in a week or two, so if you have any particular recommendations, I'd be happy to hear!

Hit wendelboe's shop while I was in Oslo. 15K Probat from mid-60s. Tim was busy cupping. His Colombian farm is still two years from maturity excellent Colombian espresso Cortado. Great barista. Will post pics once I return to u.s.

Spent three days near Mandal.. Shop was just o.k. grabbed two bags of S&O coffee. Not mind blowing at all. End of year stuff?

In stavanger at recommendation of Tim's barista. Shop is first generation Ikea. Good coffee... run down. Needs a good housecleaning. Pass. Coffee Berry. Time has run out on other recs. Barcelona tomorrow.

Norway is clearly land of light roasting... even on espresso bound ones.

Great trip Horrible weather. Has rained 7 days straight... nonstop. Was a bugger to get into and out of homestead on foot/boat due to the rain.

I think Bergen is the rainiest place in Europe, and Stavanger is not far away. Until a week ago, this year in particular has been especially bad in central Europe at least.

I will spend my yearly few hours in Oslo on Wednesday. Used to live in Sweden, but now live in a place where the charcoal is lighter than the coffee; so I'm excited to try some of the Norwegian light roasts again!

EK43 and Aeroptress.

They are everywhere. Wendelboe's and shop in Stavanger use the Aeropress for brewed coffee. Remain unconvinced that is appropriate. Would love to put them side by side with my Kone set up.

I have no use for plastic even in heating water. Plastic kettles in all the homes. Bah.

EK43 used for bulk Bunn bulk. Mazzers for espresso.
