Slayer in NYC at RBC in Tribeca

Postby aindfan on Wed Jan 20, 2010 10:56 am

I found out yesterday that there is now a shop with a Slayer in New York City called RBC, currently serving, according to their website, beans from Dallis Coffee and The Brown Coffee Company. I'm planning to stop by after (finally) trying a Counter Culture Cupping on Friday.

Has anyone been here yet? The shop is at 71 Worth Street, New York, NY.

Haven't been yet, but saw this article:

I hope the coffee is good enough that the machine becomes a secondary feature!

Man, it's kind of a rush thinking that Aaron Blanco of Texas (Brown Coffee Co, San Antonio) is having his coffee featured in a new premiere NYC shop! Aaron took second place in this year's South Central Regional Barista Championship, and his presentation was fantastic. You can try his championship blend, Espresso 5 'Chinati', here. I believe the 2 coffees are the Ethiopia Sidamo Amaro Gayo and a Kenyan coffee that I can't remember the name of. Be advised if you order that, he's only doing it periodically, not even on a schedule, so you should communicate with him if you are looking to gauge exactly when you'll get it.

Anyway, my shameless plug of Aaron aside, I'm looking forward to hearing reports from the shop, especially if you try Aaron's espresso there.

I second Nicholas in congratulating Aaron. The scene here in Texas just seems so undeveloped compared to the "third wave" boom underway in NYC... and it's exciting to see one of our own rocking a Slayer at a hot new NYC cafe.

Glad to hear it! As I said in my OP, I'll be at the Counter Culture cupping at noon and then plan to head over to RBC. Any other HB members coming along - introduce yourselves tomorrow!

Counter Culture hosts a public cupping at their New York Training Center at 37 W 26th St between Broadway and 6th Ave at noon on Fridays.

Random side note: Very close to Shake Shack, Stumptown, and Birch Coffee (none of which use Counter Culture)

I didn't know there was a Stumptown cafe here! I'm going to walk over right now and try it out.

I keep meaning to go to the Counter Culture and Intelligentsia cuppings... one of these days I'll make it. Anyone other HB folks in the area want to arrange to meet up at one of them (obviously I'm not going to make it to today's)?

And since you brought it up, what is up with Shake Shack? I've never seen lines that long for such mediocre food.
