Pics pending (before SJM says, "no pics, didn't happen.") Phone is charging.
Joel and Frank were so loud and boisterous, Cartel threw us out. We walked to a nearby bar; the Dynamic Duo behaved more civilly and we weren't asked to leave.

Slight exaggeration (gross exaggeration) on my part.
Having trouble getting pics off phone, reduced, and uploaded. Thanks all for making the effort to attend. Frank, Candy, Joel, and John. Glad to hook up again. Michael, Nancy -- a pleasure to meet fellow NYorkers among all these cowboys out here.

Thx, Dave for organizing this and getting it going. It was a small get together, but a very nice and enjoyable one. Myself and Candie (my lovely better half) really had a nice time drinking coffee and visiting with everyone. Along with the old timers John, Joel and Dave, we also got to meet and visit with Michael and his lovely wife Nancy (visiting my wonderful state from their home state of New York).
A quick picture until Dave can get his uploaded and going.

Frank, the name of the travel grinder you brought? Run an espresso grind thru it to date?
Bud on Prince Edward Island needs a good espresso travel grinder. Thoughts?

That's the Feldgrind that I brought. And I have not tried the espresso grind, yet.

Ok, Dave. I finally got around to trying/testing both the Flair and Feldgrind for espresso. For the Feldgrind, I started out with the settings at 1.0 (suggested by a member from a UK forum). I used the Kruve espresso suggested sieves of 250 and 500 um. This setting totally choked the Flair. I started out with 17 grams of beans. In fact none of the grind really got thru the 500 um sieve. The Feldgrind took just under two minutes to grind that amount of beans.
The Feldgrind instructions actually suggest starting with a grind setting of between 1.2 and 1.6 for espresso. For my second try, I used the 1.4 setting. This was as before, totally choking the Flair. The three or four drops that got thru actually tasted pretty good to me, though (about a minute on the lever).
I then set the grind to 1.6 and did not use the screen for the third try (I did on the first two, which may have helped choke it some). Again, I got little to nothing amount of grinds below the 500um, but did use it anyway. This time, I also lightened my tamp a little. The result was actually a pretty nice tasting 13 or so grams of liquid from about 15 grams of grind. I think it took me just under a minute (58 seconds) to get that. The Feldgrind took me a minute and a half or so to grind at that setting.
Next time, I think I might even use a little more coarse of a grind (maybe 1.7 or 1.eight) so I can get closer to 20 or 25 grams of liquid out.

Wouldn't be good for backpacking, obviously, but based on my experience with the Lido 3, and on H-B reports, the Lido E from Orphan Espresso would be an excellent choice. I've found smaller grinders, with their tiny burrs, to be more challenging in terms of effort and grind consistency, and for my purposes, the Lido is an acceptable compromise between portability and output.Boldjava wrote: Bud on Prince Edward Island needs a good espresso travel grinder. While it won't be espresso (probably more like Aero-presso), I'll report back in about a week on how the Lido 3 works with the American Press I have on order. I'm pretty hopeful that the combo will yield a superlative cup without benefit of electricity.

Dave,
Thank you for putting our little group together for a great time. Enjoyed all of the conversation.
Jim Schulman showed up yesterday with a beautifully medium roasted Ethiopian and Sumatra. After pulling many shots, the house was filled with the terrific aroma of well roasted coffee.
As we discussed, I just don't enjoy the super light roasting that's prevalent these days in so many espresso bars.
Thanks to all of you who listened to my rant.
