The first AZ HB meetup will be in the Phoenix Area on Saturday, December 12. Details on location(s) and time to follow. I have contacted Cartel and Press, any other suggestions? I haven't been to Peixoto or Crepe bar, so I'm not sure if they would be good options, maybe someone has? Depending on if/what I hear back from them, we can start working on some times and locations. Thanks everyone!
It also sounds like there is good support of doing a Tucson based event in early 2016!

Crepe Bar is one of my favorite places for food and for coffee. They are currently expanding into the space next to them. But right now, their space is tiny and they are always packed, especially on Saturdays. Maybe after the remodel, they will be a viable spot.
Cartel in Tempe is huge. It is kind of loud in there, but they can maybe accommodate us? I see the owner pretty often and can ask him if you haven't heard back, Colin. Let me know.
Looking forward to it.

Thanks Pete! I sent a message via their website contact form, so maybe if you see him you can mention it to add some credibility. Do you know where their roasting space is / if they have a training lab or back bar anywhere?

I haven't been there, but it sounds like they're taking over an adjacent space. Decent article regarding the plans here: http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/restaura ... ar-7457563

I stopped there for lunch today. They're taking over the space to the north of them. They originally thought they'd be in by August, but now it looks like the beginning of the new year. Much construction in December, during which time they'll be closed.
Oh, and lunch was delicious, of course!

I received a reply from Maverick in Scottsdale, and they are generously willing to host us in their back meeting space, waive the fee, and allow us use of their EK. So, that could be a good option - I'm waiting to hear back from the owner if there is power to be able to run any smaller machines or equipment in the area, or if they have a training space in the back, potentially with a smaller machine. If you haven't been there, they use coffee from Ritual and Presta, and have nice space in a shopping center I forgot existed at Shea and Scottsdale. http://www.maverickcoffee.com/#about-maverick
I haven't heard back from Cartel or Press, I will try them again today. If I don't receive any response from them, I can still host all or part of the day, and we can supplement with a stop at Maverick too. My only (minor) concerns are: my kitchen will be a little tight with 7 of us, but doable, and Maverick is about 25 minutes or so from my house. (Actually any shop or cafe would be 20+ minutes from my area (36th St and Indian School))
Any thoughts? And I don't know if we've gotten much of a role call of what equipment you all might be willing to bring (or is portable).
I have a Vario, which is obviously easy to transport, and the Technika, which is not easy transport. I'm personally interested in maybe trying out some lever machines and some various grinders (HG-one, E37s, K30, or the like).

Top notch sleuthIng, Colin. Maverick sounds great. I haven't seen my Cartel guy yet, so I will find him asap. I am not sure if they have a training space/cupping room. I think they do? Anywho, I will find out.
I have a Caravel (very portable) and a Pharos (very portable as well) to bring. And I can bring my Acaia Pearl (whatever the first one is called).

I'll bring my Micro Casa a Leva. I may need some help lifting as I am "the old one." Also if necessary, I can bring my Forte.

gophish,
Maverick does sound like a good place for this get together. you mentioned you'd like to try some levers. I could bring my La Pavoni Eourcopilla '84 vintage. It's not in the class as some of the other levers mentioned here but a good example of the most basic starting point for most of us. Count me in either way!
