Palm Springs/San Diego Roasters or Shops...

Postby espressonewb on Mon Mar 02, 2009 7:53 pm

Good evening all,

I've got a week long trip out west coming up, and whereas I typically seek out a new vineyard, I thought I might ask if anybody has a favorite coffee house/roaster that hales from either Palm Springs or San Diego Area, CA...

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Mark

You should check out Bird Rock Coffee Roasters while you are in San Diego.

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters
5627 La Jolla Blvd.
La Jolla, CA

Emphasis on organic and fair trade beans that are all roasted on site.

Chuck Patton who started and owns the business is a great guy who loves coffee.

Enjoy,

I would second Bird Rock Coffee Roasters (although I am not a huge fan of their espresso blend), and I would add Cafe Calabria located in North Park. Those are the only two places that I would recommend in San Diego, which has a pretty disappointing coffee scene.

As far as Palm Springs goes, I haven't found anything worth going back to. I stopped by Palm Springs Koffi last weekend while visiting family, and while the Synesso was initially encouraging, I couldn't drink the 7 sec espresso the barista pulled into shot glasses and poured into a demitasse (I'm not a fan of burnt carbon) :(

Don't miss Elixir downtown. I was very impressed last year.

Wow, thanks to all for the input...I was sort of hoping to garner one shop out of the group, as I recognize it was a fairly niche request...

Sweet, looks like I'll have a new coffee shop to try each day I'm in the La Jolla/San Diego area! My wife will be 'thrilled'...She's not a coffee drinker...:)

Cheers, and thanks again!

Thanks zin...appreciate the heads up...I myself haven't found any southern california wines worth a whole bunch, but I'm open to having a taste...

On a side, if you get a chance to check out Goepfrich in the Russian River Valley, it comes highly recommended. Ray and Bonnie, the purveyors are wonderful people, and he's got the best 3.5 acres of land any grapevines have seen!

Sorry for the off topic response, but I felt compelled to offer a bit of information, seeing all I have been doing is sucking from the bottom line of knowledge rather than being productive! :)

Cheers,

Mark
