HI all,

Just wanted to let folks know of a map I curate in my spare time of quality cafes. Most of these I've been to, although I will also add places that are recommended by knowledgeable friends or get a good write-up in e.g. Sprudge. Hopefully useful if you find yourself in a new part of the world.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?hl ... 243589&z=9

Heavy on:
  • SF Bay Area
  • NYC
  • London
  • Portland
Comments, criticisms, and additions welcome!

It would be really cool if one could hover over the cup and see the name of the café pop up.

in Portland I recommend Case Study and Water Ave be added.

Nice, you can remove the San Jose Red Berry location, they moved to Los Altos, and the Barefoot Coffee Rollup Bar hasn't been open in years.

  • Voyager Craft Coffee on Stevens Creek in Santa Clara
  • Vero's Coffee Bar on S. 1st in San Jose
  • Chromatic just opened a second shop on N. 2nd in San Jose
  • Never, on Belmont (iirc) in Portland
  • Barista, a few locations in Portland
  • Since you have some in SoCal, Coffee Commissary, Burbank makes great coffee, including some of the most consistently good pourovers anywhere. They have a couple of other LA locations, too, but I haven't been to those.

This is a really neat idea! So are you accepting submissions from forum members? I would have a few to add in Toronto (and one in Ottawa).

I would love to see this expand. I travel quite a bit, and it's sometimes maddening to find a decent cup. What is the most efficient way for us to submit additions? I have quite a few, and want to make it as easy as possible for OP to import.

Please put Philly on the map! We have several world class shops, including (but not limited to...)
  • -Menagerie (18 S 3rd St, Phila, PA 19106)
-Elixr (207 S. Sydenham St, Phila, PA 19102)
    -Square One (249 S 13th St Phila, PA 19107 and 1811 JFK Blvd, 19103)
    -Ultimo (1900 S 15th St, Phila, PA 19145 & 2149 Catharine St, 19146) - owned & operated by Aaron Ultimo, a WBC judge, & his wife
-Reanimator (310 W Master St, Phila, PA 19122)
-Rival Brothers (2400 Lombard St, Phila, PA 19146)
-Shot Tower (542 Christian St, Phila, PA 19147)
Give a special shout out to The Monkey and the Elephant (2831 W Girard Ave, Phila, PA 19130). M&E is the vision of Lisa Miccolis, who's devoted years of her life to kids who age out of the foster care system. It turns out (at least here in PA) that once you turn 18, you're on your own - and many kids find themselves truly alone, with no guidance or mentor and no knowledge, skill or experience with which to be self sufficient. Lisa is a long time coffee nut, a highly skilled barista, and an all around great person who decided years ago to create a program that would teach these kids coffee as a business in order to give them a framework on which to build a life as an adult. M&E is it, and it's both a great little shop and a truly valuable place for all of us to support.
