Any great ESPRESSO in Minneapolis downtown?

Postby oknewell on Mon Aug 30, 2010 7:04 pm

I'm in Minneapolis for the first time; staying at the downtown Hyatt. Is there anyplace to get a legitimate espresso around here? I've been to three place and got three TOTAL losers. All three had good equipment, they just didn't know anything about making espresso. Anybody know of some place downtown, preferably walking distance that serves up a good shot (or even somebody who knows what a good shot is and gives it a good college try to make it). Your assistance and recommendations would be most appreciated.

Unfortunately there aren't any great coffee shops in downtown Minneapolis I'm aware of, that's why I make my own. I've found some random places that will make satisfactory espresso drinks, but flat out decent shots... no luck.

There is a shop that I purchase some of my espresso equipment/parts from, the owner might be able to steer you in the right direction. The Owner/President is Peter Kelsch and I've known him since he started his business in a small office in a suburb of Minneapolis (Edina) several years ago. I was going to work with him to purchase my equipment, unfortunately things didn't work out with my business partner at the time and that fell through. I struck up a conversation with him about 6 months ago, he has a good memory and LOVES to talk coffee and equipment. Tell Peter about your situation, this guy knows a lot about the coffee business in Minneapolis and will be able to steer you in the right direction. If he has any questions or wants to know who sent you, tell him my name.

Here's the information:

Business Name: Espresso Services Inc.
Owner: Peter Kelsch (President)
Address: 1026 Central Ave. NE, Minneapolis MN.
Website: http://www.espresso-services.com/
Phone: 612-746-8880

How long are you going to be in town? Keep us posted on what you find out.

Best of luck! :)

Sincerely,
