This is apparently not a new idea, the Trudeau Coffee Press lifts and traps the grinds in a stainless steel mesh basket above the coffee after brewing. I have used one for several years and it works great. My only complaint is that one has to be careful pouring hot water thru the top and this may cool the water in the process. It does seem to give a "smoother" coffee taste compared to the typical french press, yet retains the "big french press taste".

I purchased mine from Su La Table several years ago. Unfortunately when checking the web today I could not find any except this reference at Amazon:

As with anything else I read here on HB, I may have to give this one a try, even though at first blush it sounds like a complicated way to get drip coffee. Then again I make no claims of understanding all the nuances in brew cycle that seem to make a difference in the final cup.

As for me I like press coffee as well as the middle eastern variety and espresso and drip coffee and any other kind of coffee from any technique because it's the same but different. I love it for what it is and marvel at the differences. I like pressed coffee because it seems to me to leave nothing behind, so I never would have sought this "solution." Still I find it interesting.
