I'm assuming you're using drip grind for this? Has anyone tried french press grind/brewing length using the filter-in-a-cup? I have a tea strainer that is a wire hoop with a cotton "sock" on it. It is big enough to pretty much allow the ground coffee to float about in a mug like in a french press. Only problem would be washing it after to get the oils out. Kind of an obvious thing to try but can't say I've ever thought about it. The cotton would be strong enough to allow the excess water to be squeezed out like a press pot.

Hmmm, have to try it sometime. Might be a better travel arrangement than the Moka pot when I visit my sister.

I use a press grind & steep time when I brew in the cup (mug) using my Finum filters. Gives a nice press pot style brew without the bitters.
