I found one of these in stylish white for $7 at the local Omega Thrift that looks like it never saw any use - no discoloring in the cone at all. The made in Germany Krups brewer boasts 650 watts of power so it should handle small brewing amounts without much trouble. This model rolled out in the late 1980's and retailed for around $30 which isn't too bad for a no frills four cup brewer today but certainly was on the pricey side 25 years ago. The heated brewing water is isolated from the cooler tank water similar to the popular Melitta/Gevalia BCM-4 four cup brewer design. Most units this size have a plastic tube running through the cooler tank water to carry the heated brewing water up to the shower head. This trip through the cooler water kills brewing temps. The coffee from the Krups 170 is hot and tasty - a compact blast from the past!
