I see that Kaffeologie has a Kickstarter project going to help launch this filter, which seems very much like the Able DISK Fine.
A few differences that pop out immediately:
- Uses mesh, possibly finer-gauge.
- Has a logo stamped into the mesh; not sure I like this.
Anyone have experience with this company's other filters?

I don't have any experience with their other filters, as they seem a bit difficult to clean and maintain in comparison to other available options. This Aeropress filter on the other hand looks a big more sturdy and rugged. I own both Disks and cloth filters for my Aeropress, but am always tempted to try new filters. It reminds me a lot of the Disk filters, but I wonder how the fine mesh differs with regard to the cup.

More info. from Nate Jones (of Kaffeologie) via singleservecoffee.com:
Nate Jones wrote:We think the S Filter is a stronger design solution [than the DISK Fine] on a number of fronts:
1. It's a finer filter. Our filter has openings of only 60 microns, which is several times smaller than even the Disk Fine.
2. Our mesh + steel ring design allows us to engineer both finer holes and a stronger frame, so the filter feels much sturdier and will probably last much longer under typical use than the Disk Fine.
3. The mesh design allows us to space holes very close together, while the plate steel of the Disk Fine requires a much less dense pattern of openings. This means the S Filter will filter more evenly and easily than the Disk Fine.
4. Finally, the Disk Fine is optically etched, and our filter is woven. Optical etching involves eating away the metal with toxic acids, and we don't feel comfortable with that. We'll put up a report on our production footprint in the next day or two on the website, so you can check their for more info.

Yeah, I backed them on it, $10 for more ways to play with my Aeropress? Sure!

That is my thought at the moment as well. I travel with my aeropress, so I am always up for another filter option. I love my Disks, cloth, and even the paper filters. It'll be a fun comparison.

Color me skeptical though re: the implicit claim that Able-style optical etching is somehow bad for the environment.

It bugs me when I see companies making unproven and potentially meaningless claims like this to promote their product over a competitor's.jbviau wrote:Color me skeptical though re: the implicit claim that Able-style optical etching is somehow bad for the environment.

Perhaps I missed it, but what's different from the one they already offer on their site?

It does look a little different, but wouldn't mind knowing the specifics.

I think their point is that the waste from manufacturing ends up somewhere in the closed environment - being green (or greener than the next guy) is, in my opinion, worth touting in sales speak. I still backed the Kone III though and asked for extra strength acid etching on mine...jbviau wrote:Color me skeptical though re: the implicit claim that Able-style optical etching is somehow bad for the environment.
I have a Kaffeologie Melitta cone filter that I like a lot - it filters a little better than a Swiss Gold filter.
