Hario drip cones

Postby Teus on Mon Mar 28, 2011 5:10 pm

When I'm traveling I like to make coffee for everybody, so I would like to buy a drip cone that can make a large quantity of coffee. I never used them before however. Hario lists 6cup drip cones on their site: http://www.harioglass.com/coffee/dripper.html

However, I have trouble finding the 6cup on webshops.

This PDF says you can make a whopping 24oz/780ml from seemingly a 4cup cone:

can somebody clear this out, or should I just go and buy a 6cup Melitta cone 8)

The North American channel for selling Hario, Roustabout Products shows the Clear Plastic 6 Cup VD-03T available, but that may be of little help to you in Belgium.

Maybe Hario figures that us Norte Americanos enjoy a supersized cup while the rest of the world is more moderate in their coffee consumption. I donno, I recently scaled back from pouring myself 350 ml to only 200 ml of coffee for my morning commute and once I adjusted I'm fine with it.

For family gatherings, I like the Chemex + Coava Coffee Kone for 1 liter batches. I tried a 1.5 liter batch but bloomed over the side. Stainless Steel french presses also work well for large batches and may travel better then a glass Chemex, but you should be able to use a Kone in a V60. Both these methods give you a lot of body, oil, and some sediment.

Sorry I'm not more help, but I've yet to pick up a Hario V60 cone and lately have been using the Clever Coffee Dripper with 450 ml of water and 28 grams coffee to brew 400 ml batches. Good luck.

I tried 48gm coffee/780gm water this morning in my V60 02 cone and server. There's no problem with the cone holding 48gm of coffee (actually it's a nice amount) but the server got clear full and would overflow a little if I didn't remove it. Every morning I do 42/700 and it's OK but that's about it for the server.

I do 24g/400g using the 01 cone and that works good for a single cup.

Edit: I watched closer this morning when I did my normal 42/700 with the 02 cone and server and the server level was about 1/2 inch from full to the top.
