The $395 kit price seems to have severely limited interest in the Dragon brewer. I asked La Colombe a year ago, and they told me they had no plans to sell the brewer by itself at a lower price.

The high price tag is of course a serious limitation if the taste is not different from a syphon brewer. Anybody had a chance to taste it?

And now they're selling the Dragon by itself, for a lower price.

Martin, I am surprised that you haven't tried one yet... You try almost everything that is interesting in the world of coffee technology!

I have one, and like it, but do not use it much. It tastes much like siphon coffee, but comes out cooler, and as a result, the flavor is more appreciable right away. I think it is a little stronger than vac pot, at the ratio suggested by Todd Carmichael.

The main reason that I use it little, it that it needs to air-dry after cleaning (very easy, BTW), and this is a risky proposition with my kids and housekeepers. The decision to ship this thing with a Pelican case is brilliant.

I feel like a mad scientist home barista when using it, however.

If you lived closer, I'd let you try mine.

I like it enough that I do not find it to be a waste of money. It does cool the coffee, and if you like coffee super hot, this is not the brewer for you. Siphon is always too hot for me, so this is much better in my case.

I think I will play with the Dragon this weekend. I have lots of good coffee and need to try a ceramic filter I bought some time ago. If I can find it.
