To answer my own question, #2 is out -- really can't clean the Diguo filter thoroughly with it in the funnel. As for #3, a little vegetable oil makes it a little easier to get the filter out, but not much. So it's probably #1 for me.

As for brewing, I really like this filter! The grind, steep, stir and draw down parameters are essentially the same as paper filters. Maybe 3-5 seconds less steep time, but otherwise the same. Results in the cup are excellent. I get the body and oils that the glass rod lets through, but none of the grit and chew. While I do like the glass rod better than the paper filter, I have to grind finer, have to wait longer for a strong vacuum to form and need a much longer steep time. I get a better cup faster with the Diguo filter.

I'm having a hard time seeing why I'd use the glass rod, and I can't see any reason to use a cloth filter.

However, every now and then I want a super-clean cup so I can taste subtle fruit and floral flavors. That's where the paper filter shines.

I have a Yama 8 cup (40 oz) and an Adcraft stainless. I use my Silex "lox-in" glass rod with both. There is a bit of silt, but no "grit."

Evan, did I miss what siZe vac you had. I can measure the opening on my Yama. I ASSUME there's a bit more space surrounding the hole/stem than the 3 cup model?

Thanks for bringing this to us!

Edit...looks like about 58-60 mm from slope to slope where the Diguo would fit.

Mine came but aside from checking the fit in my 2 Hario Nouveau vac pots I haven't tried it out yet. It fits fine in both the 3C & 5C pots, just like the cloth filter holders that I've always used.

It doesn't wedge tight in the 3C? If so, the 3C Hario Nouveau funnel must be slightly larger in diameter than the Yama.

The Nouveau has a wider area at the bottom then your Yama 3C. http://www.avenue18.ca/TEAPOT/Hario/cof ... veau_3.htm

The Diguo filter drops in & out easily.

Sadly, it looks like the Nouveau stand won't work with my halogen heater. Just curious -- where can one buy the Nouveau?

Just click on that link & place an order. I believe that Raymond at Avenue 18 may be the only North American source but you could check around. I bought all my Vac pot gear from him including an NOS Nouveau 5C & all the spare globes & parts I'll ever need.

Thanks. But alas, it looks like the base won't work with my halogen heater. Is it metal or plastic? Is there a hole in the middle? If metal and there's a hole, I could cut a slot in the base to slide it over the heater.

Or, will the globes work with the clamp in a standard Hario or Yama 3-cup stand?

I can't imagine why it wouldn't work in my halogen heater. It's silicone, it should be pretty robust. I should break out my 3 and 5 cup and try it out to be sure.
