It looks like both kinds of filters are still listed in the current catalog on the Hario site, along with some Lovedori kissing dove V60 filters. Doesn't mean that they couldn't have discontinued the VCF-02-100W filters, but it still doesn't explain why the VCF-02-100W-JW filters would be in a package labeled as VCF-02-100W filters since they have separate part numbers and packaging.
VCF-02-100W (723320)
VCF-02-100W-JW (72666) (new, easy to use, added flap)
VCFL-02-20W (726314) Lovedori kissing dove filters
VCF-02-100W (723320)
VCF-02-100W-JW (72666) (new, easy to use, added flap)

What made Hario filters unique was how thin they were. I hope hope HOPE they didn't resort to cheaper/thicker generic Melitta style filter paper, cause that's exactly what I have with my package of VCF-02-100W. These feel and function no different to what you'd get at Walmart.

I'm guessing it must be some kind of fluke. I can't see why Hario would even consider changing one of their most well known brewing products like this. At least I sure hope not. I use V60 filters for my Bonavita immersion dripper brews (similar to the Clever dripper). Makes for a fast and clean drawdown.

I just received a new shipment of V60-01 filters and I found the same thing. The new ones have a little tab and they feel a bit thicker. The drawdown time is also much longer. I'll have to play around with them and see how I like them otherwise.

Looks like Hario did indeed switch to generic commodity filters.

I stocked up awhile back (1200+ filters). Hopefully, it will last 4 years.
