New to the forums.

I have a Bunn Velocity Brew coffee machine and the coffee is nasty. I'm currently using Starbucks coffee (ground at the store) I'm in the process pf purchasing a grinder and finding a local roaster/shop to purchase coffee. Any tips on how to get a decent cup of coffee out of this machine? Any advice on a grinder?

Thanks in advance

First of all, you want a burr grinder rather than a blade grinder.

Hario Skerton is the budget option, but I find it to be nuisance to hand grind many beans.
Baratza Encore will give you the best grind at the price point for an electric grinder.

I don't know anything about the Bunn Velocity, but the most important thing is the freshness and quality of the beans. If we assume the machine works right at proper temperatures, than second would be the grind consistency and size.

Also, keep your machine cleaned religiously.

Nasty how, bitter, sour, strong, weak?

How much coffee are you using for how much water?

You'll need to adjust grind size, amount of coffee, and choice of coffee for best flavor, make sure you use enough coffee to get good flavor.

A free flow restrictor spray head may also help with fresh coffee.

Well, starting with actual good coffee will go a long way to getting you actual good coffee!

There are many great roasters that ship inexpensively.

I've been looking at the two grinders below. Both on sale through Amazon. Any thoughts....

1. Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder

2. Cuisinart CBM-18N Programmable Conical Burr Mill
