Anfim Best for Drip?

Postby rideold on Tue Sep 21, 2010 1:11 pm

I have an old and somewhat abused Anfim Best (badged "Milano"). Yea, it's pretty old. Anyway, the doser is broken (no handle) and I manufactured a doser cover out of a deli container lid so it doesn't spray grinds everywhere so it's kind of ugly right now. The burrs are in need of replacement as well. I have a super jolly for espresso so I'm left with this grinder kind of sitting around. I was considering replacing the burrs and doing a soda bottle style doserless conversion and "lending" it to my parents for their drip coffee. I've weaned them off of crummy coffee and now I'm working on getting rid of their whirling blade grinder. Anyway, does anybody have any feedback on how this grinder would be for drip? Seeing as I could buy them a refurbished/used Maestro for under $100 I'm wondering if it's really worth the time, expense and trouble. Thoughts?

Unless money is really tight, I think the Maestro is the way to go.

This is from several standpoints: using the tool how it's designed, size, aesthetics...
