Where do I buy 1/16 DIN PID enclosures worldwide shipping?

Postby leopm on Thu Oct 27, 2011 1:32 pm

Hi all,

I just ordered a PID kit for my Gaggia Twin (I believe that nobody tried to PID a Twin yet, at least no one that has documented it on the web).

The kit is on its way to Brazil, where I live. The problem actually is the enclosure for it, since I didn't find many places to buy one. The better I found is a 1/32 DIN enclosure, that doesn't help me a lot.

Could you please indicate a place that:

1. Sells 1/16 DIN enclosures;
2. Ships worldwide.

Well, as a plan B, if someone has an easy, decent DIY enclosure project I'd appreciate too. I'd prefer stainless steel, but I'm open to suggestions.

Thank you very much.

You might try http://www.digikey.com -- It's been a while, but I recall looking at a Hammond enclosure some time back that was a nice aluminum extrusion. It looks like Hammond now has some that have a channel mount that could be used to fasten it to your machine neatly.

erics,

Thanks for attention. The auberins box is really nice but they don't send boxes to other countries due to its weight, as advised on the site.

You're correct - sorry for my poor eyesight.

HOWEVER, the problem is not weight (at least from my viewpoint) but size. I ship foreign ALL THE TIME and the most cost effective way to ship is via USPS using the small flat rate box (1/32 DIN fits;1/16 DIN does not). Using the small flat rate box allows one to use the simpler customs form which definitely saves time.

I have one of these boxes (new) from Auber and my solution would be to slice it with a band saw to fit the small box. The end plates would hold the unit very sturdy. Total shipping charge would be $20 - that's my standard rate for USPS Priority in the small flat rate box.

BUT THEN - you need to consider all the labor involved in subletting the cutting of the box. The enclosure is going to wind up being more than the PID unit itself. Time to embrace those detective skills you've always admired and search local.

Erics,

Thanks again for attention.

I believe that cutting the box would be a little too much for me. Gonna search a little more, even because I'm trying to find a stainless steel one to match the Twin finishing.
