Dosing by volume is the least accurate method on low volume use. The coffee ages, the weather changes, etc.

The knock box is the ideal receptacle for stray, superfluous grind.

And some of us hated the damn thing & couldn't wait to sell it. I personally wouldn't even consider purchasing another Baratza product. I've also had excellent reliability with my BMWs & currently own 6 of them (2 & 4 wheel).

I forgot to mention my '87 K100 was the worst scooter ever owned:
electronic gauges failed multiple times
front master cylinder fail
muffler guard fell off
flaking paint
seat pad 'migrated' up over tank
front fork seals leak
cheeso sheet metal body fasteners
gas cap drains rain water into tank
stupid EMS could make steep twisty downhill rides 'interesting'
when the left mirror fell out in a canyon turn, I parked it and bought a Hurricane the next day
...

great motor, but that's it

Never had any similar problems on multiple Honda or Kawasaki scoot's

And I'll probably replace the Gran Banshee, er, Macinino with a Baratza Preciso

Diff'rent Strokes

Ever watch Fringe? I'm beginning to think we live in alternate universes. I hauled my 2 kids all over the eastern U.S. in a side hack rig built around an 87 K100 & never had any of those issues. By the way the water drained into your tank because the drain hole was plugged or drain line was kinked. Can happen on any bike with a flush mount cap. The gauge issue was common but fixed by 89 & covered under warranty.

Went with a Mazzer Super Jolly if that's any indication of what I think about Baratza's build quality.

Indeed, for someone with only 26 posts to-date, you've made this point exceedingly clear; below are few excerpts. In light of the Guidelines for productive online discussion admonishment to help raise the discussion level, I ask that you please move on. Thanks.

alex e wrote:No thanks on the Baratza. Been there done that.

alex e wrote:I now see they employ a lot of lightweight plastic, knobs that fall off, etc. I won't be buying another. I will buy a used grinder before another Baratza, sorry.

alex e wrote:My Virtuoso is on eBay right now if that's any indication of confidence in it.

alex e wrote:I think everything about a Baratza is cheap, except the burrs. If you aren't into thoughtfulness of design, materials and construction, I bet the Vario is fine.
