I had pretty good results with the Breville BCG450XL conical burr grinder. It's stepless, and somewhat consistent and even. A good, nay, great electric grinder for the price ($100 or so).

But your better bet is to buy a hand grinder, or increase your budget. I went to a used Mazzer Super Jolly (+/- $350) and got an enormous difference in the cup.

The new krups GX610050 is a lot better than the breville in terms of grind quality plus its only 100 dollars. A thread was created on either coffeegeek or homebarista I can't remember which. It is way more suitable for espresso than the breville as a bunch of guys tested and had good results for espresso. The Breville sucks IMO (can't do espresso) BTW I own 2 commercial grinders so I know what I'm talking about (super jolly+rossi rr45).

I posted my impression of this Krups conical burr grinder her on H-B in this thread:

Krups Conical Burr Grinder - 1st look

Some reported buying one on Amazon for $90 shipped but it is back up to $100 now - still hard to beat for that price if your on a tight budget.

Damned with feigned praise.

Yes, well, without trying the Krups, that was about the most praise I could muster for a $100 grinder...

I certainly couldn't tolerate it now, after two years with a Jolly, but I will say that I occasionally got a pretty good shot with the Breville. If that's what your budget allows, then that's what you'll have to put up with.

Can this be purchased for only $150 in the Ukraine?

Here in the USA it costs $220 shipped - still a good price for a stepless (worm drive) entry level conical burr grinder - similar to the Lux/Ascaso/Le'Lit/Vanelli's style conical burr grinder so not the end of the line but a good place to start with a sub $250 budget.

You can always go with the used grinder approach on ebay if you want guaranteed fantastic quality.
The only concern is that it will be used so you will need to refurbish the grinder, and you will have to have to compete in bid wars (which can be frustrating when you lose).

I got a super jolly for 200 + shipping and my rossi for 115+shipping.

I love my grinders and I will never ever sell them...They are really just that good.

+1 on the hand grinder.
A quality espresso capable box mill might set you back 70 bucks but the trick is finding one.
The modern glass jars with ceramic burrs are more reliably capable, but ergonomically deficient.

And after you upgrade, you still have a nice travel grinder.
