Ask if the machine was used with a water softener
if so how often was maintained/ recharge, regenerate (infact ask if the machine was on a PM regular maintenance schedule like every commercial espresso machine SHOULD)
pull up the water level probe up,
even better unscrew the water level nut and look for scale build up
also with a flashlight look inside the boiler from the hole if every think looks copperish including the coil of the heating element then most likely the scale is under control,
if different color be aware of scale

the current owners bought the machine with the shop, but converted the shop to a different use and so have not used the machine so they have limited information about it.

where is the water level probe and nut located? ill see if i can take a look. if it is scaled up is it possible to de-scale to become fully functional?

thanks.

Hi Mark, thanks for asking. i did buy it in the end (for £480), im going to post some pics later to show the condition and pick the minds of the site on the best way to go about bringing it up to spec. and Jakes advice is a start but i want to strip her down really (much like you did here) as linked earlier, i think she needs it looking at the base (inside). I'll start up a new thread around midday when i have time to resize the pictures i've taken. Also, there is a plumber coming round to fit a washing machine this morning (dont lose faith in me, its rented accommodation and they've had to replace the one that was totally shot! legal this, legal that etc.) so im going to speak to him about plumbing it in.

BRAVO! Image

May it provide much pleasure (once the strip-down-and-rebuild is complete) for many years to come . . .
