More to the point, it's a geared-down DC, not an AC motor, so I am not sure you can infer the same things about motor power/torque as you can from an AC motor looking at its amperage rating. I understand that the Versalab used to have belt slippage with light-roasted beans due to a design flaw with the belt or something like that, and that it's been fixed in newer models. The fact that it's geared down should mean that there's ample torque provided it can be delivered through the drive train.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. In fact, I have just placed an order from Square Mile a bit earlier today on recommendation from Jon. I will contact the two people you mentioned, very gladly. Thank you.

On the other side, look at what is happening in Dublin... The best guys are leaving to Pasadena! ;)

I saw Stephen Morrissey at lunch today (Intelli Pasadena opening). He had these recommendations for Irelanders. All are London roasters, and they mail order to Ireland. Alphabetically: Hasbean, Peter James Gourmet and Square Mile.

If you want to pick up beans locally, he said Third Floor Espresso in Dublin brews Hasbean coffees and sells them retail. Third Floor is at 54 Middle Abbey St., and their head barista, Colin Harmon, has been Irish Barista Champion the last two years and placed 4th in the World Barista Championship. Colin has a thoughtful blog, "Dublin Barista." http://colinharmon.wordpress.com/ He currently reports on Third Floor's slow brew experiences with Marco's Uber Boiler. Colin sounds like a good person to talk coffee with in Dublin.

I suspect the other London roasters could tell you who sells their coffees retail in Dublin.

Marshall, thank you for doing the hard work of finding a local connection for me in Dublin whilst all the way in Pasadena. :) I'll try visiting Third Floor this week as I actually need to drop some E6 films in Abbey St for developing.

Hal - thanks for another vote of confidence in the Versalab. I'm still mulling that one over, I've been awaiting some answers from the manufacturer at the moment.

Everyone, thanks for all your help with my upgraditis. Enjoy your weekend.
