I recently acquired a 1990 Olympia Cremina and I need tamper recommendations for Elektra baskets with a Richard Penny Bottomless portafilter. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance

I use one of the Richard Penny tampers that OE used to sell. No idea if he still offers these or not but it works well with the Elektra baskets.

Mike,
For the baskets that I use in both my Cremina and La Pavoni Europiccola, I really like the tamper that Orphan Espresso offers. Not everyone's cup of tea, as I bought mine from another HB'er, who didn't care for the look. It offers a VERY tight fit inside the basket, and the depth of the "piston" is perfect for confirming that I've tamped level and "true". I do have to say that for my levers, I've adopted a grind-finer, tamp-less-hard technique, and for this tamping (more of a polishing) style, this tamper works great. I also like the solid feel of its stainless steel construction.

I went with a Reg Barber SS base http://www.coffeetamper.com/store/pc/vi ... ategory=44
and had Dave Stephens, Marketplace forum, do the wood for it.
Love it.
