Talk Me Out of Waiting for the New Vibiemme Domobar Super DB - Page 3

Hopefully your new DB Jr is different and doesn't have the temp fluctuations.
Did you find out what is different, if any, about the current DB Jr? What was
changed to deal w/ the temp fluctuations?

Easy to test temps once you have the group thermometer installed.

Please share what you find.

Eric just sent me his RTD kit today...

I was wondering the same thing.

You could always call Stefano or 1st line, and ask them if anything changed from the early Jr's.

I would say that the great majority of Vibiemme Domobar Junior DB machines are just fine as is. The one fault that I noticed with them was that the temperature adjustment pot on the Prodigy unit was overly sensitive. To the extent that this would be a "big deal" with the typical user - well, that's another story.

It MAY BE that there exists a "batch" of Prodigy units that are faulty. To replace that unit under warranty is, well, OK . . . To replace it out of warranty with a PID setup would be a good investment. Any espresso machine that has an on/off thermostat deserves better and hence the large use of PID's by both the OEM's and us, the end users.

When I bought this machine, after all that I read on it I imagined a PID set-up would be in my future. For now I don't see a need, but I haven't gotten the group thermometer yet. I am pulling shots from Hair Bender beans and that blend is known to run a little sour at lower temps. So far the shots are not noticeably off, i.e. the temp must be hovering around the 89-90-91 mark where it was at when Stefano demo'd it for me.

Mostly, I just want this thing to deliver a good cup of coffee when I can make the conditions right. In the early stages of my ownership (one day) I am as happy as a little girl. After the warranty period, I will probably get Stefano to install a PID mod just to avoid the worry of dealing with the temp adjustment under the cup rack.
