i like this statement...i do think with with the upgrades i made so far (from silvia to duetto, rocky to miniE, behmor to hottop/m3) the best 'upgrade' is the experience gained over time - if i pull out the old equipment, i'll probably be able to produce better espresso on it then i did before...

Ben:

Well said. You have a very nice rig right now. Worth taking the time to make the most of it.

Upgradeitis is an insidious—and often fun—affliction. But taking the time to learn strengths and weaknesses of tools, and how to compensate for and build with them, is where the learning lies. When I made my first move out of KrupsWorld™, I started with a Silvia and a CImbali grinder. I learned so much from that combo. Stuck with it for over 3 years. Roasting with the iRoast taught me a whole other dimension about my raw materials. After all that time with the Silvia, the Duetto was at first frustrating, because much of what I had learned with Silvia to get what I wanted either wasn't necessary, didn't work, or was even counterproductive. It's the thinking that goes with that process that teaches us.
You can't win. You can't break even. You can't get out of the game.
