I don't get it; the clean up after use takes 3-5 min. and wastes just a bit of coffee so what's the problem?

Yeah, those 3 to 5 minutes are 6-10 times the time it takes to actually pull the shot. Would you like to clean up you frying pan for 1,5 hours after you baked a few pancakes?
I think espresso in general is poorly suited for home use. The only reason I put up with it is that it tastes sooo good.

The comparison doesn't hold water (coffee?). It is still just a few minutes. Maybe that I'm retired and have lots of time but I did it through most of my working life.
