Rocket Giotto vs. less expensive choices

Postby kamali on Tue Nov 01, 2011 9:57 am

First off, I want to mention that HB has changed my espresso love to a whole new level. I used to be a Illy coffee buyer, and realized how important fresh beans and a grinder are. I now buy fresh coffee (CCC). I used to use a Francis Francis X5 but that recently broke, so it's time to upgrade :)

That said, I recently bought a Rocky grinder and want to buy a HX machine. I love the aesthetics on the Rocket Giotto and the capability. I know the other machines in the class, but I am getting drawn more by the looks and ease of repair to the Rocket. I am 99% cappuccino drinker. I pull about 4-6 shots a day. But if my espresso tasted better, I would start drinking much more espresso daily. The Rocket is above my budget (of $1100) but I would rather spend another 400 -500 since there are many vendor servicing Rockets. I am also hoping that the Rocket will not give me as much problems as other machines in its class. I notice that there are a lot more parts available for Rocket than other brands.

What I would like to get feedback is there a more reliable less expensive choice to the Rocket Giotto? I am looking at the Quickmill Alexia, and expobar office lever. Is the Rocket much better than these machines?

From the new Rocket owners, how is the quality, any breakdown problems? If so is it easy to repair?

Also since I am on a budget does anyone have any deals coupons they would like to share for any vendors like SCG or WLL , etc.

Can't speak of the other brands as I've never tried them. I do own the Giotto Evo and love its looks. That's what sold me over other similar machines. I think other machines in the same class are equally reliable though.

Possibly probably currently the best HX espresso machine deal out there, from dealer with excellent reputation and site sponsor.

I also own a Rocket and am quite happy with it. I've had it for a year now and no issues whatsoever.

You could also have a look at the Quickmill Andreja Premium, very similar machine and it seems to be reliable. Chris Coffee sells both, you could give them a call and get their input.
Damn this forum, I've had too m..muh...mah..mmmm..much caffeine!
