Restored Vintage Hand Mills?

Postby entropyembrace on Thu Nov 10, 2011 11:32 pm

I'm thinking about getting a second hand grinder to use exclusively for espresso...I've heard so many good things about vintage mills but the standard advice has been to buy one restored from Orphan Espresso. OE doesn't seem to sell restored hand mills anymore...in fact they are selling off their unrestored mills so it looks like they won't be performing that service anymore.

Is there anyone who is still selling restored and tested vintage mills for espresso?

do an ebay search for this seller: rochardrik

he seems to have a pretty good selection and always shows the grinder as he took apart. he will also tell you if can grind fine enough for espresso.

I had very good experience with the seller 19geku

Also, sometimes a mill said to be fine for espresso will not be - I had that with a Zass. But then you can resell such a mill, there's no worry :)
Also four other grinders that I got were good for espresso.

The vintage mills are much better choice then Hario or Kyocera, in my opinion. I haven't used the latter ones though and I'm based on what I've read on the net.

Of course, if I can one day, I'll get the OE baby (the Pharos), but don't get me wrong - with my wooden vintage hand grinders I'm completely satisfied. They're pearls!
